Newsweek exposé: Global Warming Is A Hoax*

*So say the folks funded by fossil-fuel lobby groups.

I've said it often enough, so it was great to read Dave Sag of Carbon Planet saying it:

Newsweek is running a fascinating history of coordinated climate change denial in a story The Truth About Denial.

It’s been the dirty secret of the dinosaur industries who see their immediate bottom line about to be hit by actions to mitigate against climate change that they know global warming is real, they know we humans have caused it, and they have been doing everything in their path to coverup those facts. But no amount of bullshit pseudo-documentaries, hack-science and well funded rhetoric can keep the basic, inconvenient truths contained. For those of us who care about the planet, our time is surely now. — DS, Carbon Planet

It's even more gratifying that the respected Newsweek isNewsweek Cover: Global warming is a Hoax exposing the confected "hoax" of the fossil-fuel funded global warming denialist industry. The article by Sharon Begley is accurate, well researched and well written. It lays bare the mechanics behind a decades-long orchestrated, concerted attack on the public's understanding of the crystal-clear message coming out of the climate sciences.

The outcome is that we are still fiddling around the edges of mitigation while ExxonMobil — the largest patron of the denialist industry — continues making record profits. By now we should have rolled up our sleeves, got stuck into the problem, and be well down the road of serious progress. You see, climate change is racing to head us off at Tipping Point pass.

All the blame for the opportunity-cost lies at the feet of ExxonMobil, the think-tanks and lobby-groups they funded, and the media shills and blatantly scientifically illiterate opinion journalists who faithfully relayed the big lies of big coal and oil.

How has the MSM Missed This???

How has the MSM managed to miss this??
Stone Age Settlement Found Under English Channel

But what would happen if we had evidence of glaciers melting and massive flooding that occurred 10,000 years ago - long before man burned fossil fuels to any significant degree ? Such evidence would certainly be considered evidence that global warming is a natural phenomenon - as opposed to man-made.

Well - this evidence actually exists and was reported in a Yahoo News article (via LiveScience.com) titled "Stone Age Settlement Found Under English Channel."

No one doubts that global warming is natural. But the current rate of global warming is what this conversation is about - and it's unnatural.

I don't know what will turn out to be right, but I think that it's interesting that those who question the climate change flavor of the decade are labelled "denialists" and "nutters" of the Flat Earth Society. Agree with AGW, however, and you suddenly have a great deal of intelligence and can probably get a date with the supermodel of your choice.

It's unsettling that the AGW proponents find it necessary to either dismiss the mental abilities of those who don't agree with them, or to accuse them of being in the pocket of "Big Oil and Coal" and therefore of being members of a cabal out to bring on Armageddon by "denying" AGW, all for personal gain.

It seems a bit heavy-handed as a response to those who are actually just saying that the models are neither that accurate nor that complete and that it is premature to try to fix a problem that may not really exist, especially when the proposed "fixes" are very expensive (both monetarily and in terms of quality of life) and don't even claim to do anything significant to the Big Picture Problem of Total Global Warming, which is far larger than just AGW. When the "deniers" point out that there are actual temperature measurements that contradict the TGW, well, they've simply gone too far.

wadard, u are so right. the rate of GW is so un-natural and big things are in store for this planet, and by year 2500, humans might not be here on Earth: just some plants and animals and fish in the sea. Here's my plea, in lyrics to a new song i created for the global community:
